It's another gloomy, rainy day..but I am somewhat comforted by the fact that I have the opportunity to put my rainboots to good use again! Ever since we encountered a flash flood on the streets of Wan Chai last year, Mr Ng has been uber envious of my knee-hi waterproof boots as I waded through the dirty, brown water with ease and has been on the hunt for a pair to call his own.
Actually I must admit that it is thanks to Mr Ng that these boots found their way into my shoe cupboard to begin with, he was getting sick of me using my patent Pradas as my wet-weather shoes - so thank you babe!
I have to say though that I've put these babies to such good use that I've been on the lookout for another pair of rainboots ever since (although Mr Ng keeps trying to convince me that one pair is enough, whatever..)
Number 1 on the list - the Hunter for Jimmy Choo crocodile-print wellington boots:
I saw these for the first time IRL in New York last year at Saks (best shoe shopping expedition EVER, but that's another post ;) and would have gotten them if they hadn't had been so bulky. Carrying around a heavy-ass DSLR in my handbag for a week and I was officially turned off buying anything too heavy, even shoes how sad..Anyways, all this time has passed and I still like them so that's gotta say something!
Next up, Aigle:
I've only ever seen these in Hong Kong and unsuccessfully tried Mr Ng to get a pair at the IFC pop-up store last month, but unfortunately he was unwilling to pay the HKD2000 for a pair of rubber boots (men..). But the more I look at them the more I like them! After seeing a nice pink pair on a girl yesterday I would most definitely opt for a version like the one on the left with the dark coloured sole, rainboots are bound to get dirty and the bottom edges and soles of this girl's pretty pink boots had turned a muddy brown colour.
Oops I just realised I had started this post intending to write about rainboot options for Mr Ng and got sidetracked - so back to the point now!
My favourite choice for men would have to be Hunters:
Not too feminine, nice and man-ly. These ones have the added advantage of being lined in leather, great for Mr Ng who seems to think that wearing rubber boots for the whole day will result in unpleasanting smelling feet (although I have absolutely no problem with mine).
However being the tightass that he is, he much prefers these:
Although personally I'm not really a fan of the heel.
Of course , Mr Ng could go even more tightass and opt for the short version:
I did also point out a short Lacoste one to him over the weekend they are selling at Hype (here) but he thought they looked a bit too girly. However, a couple of reasons why I don't recommend short rainboots:
- they don't look as good
- only yesterday as I was walking along Clarence Street in the city, a bus drove past me right into a puddle splashing water all over my legs
So if you're like me and don't think ahead and walk a little too close to the gutter on rainy days I say go for the full length ones - you won't regret it!
So Mr Ng, what's it gonna be??
