Sokyo

Last week Mr Ng's colleague - who will now be referred to as Mr H - was again in town from HK for work and so this time we took the opportunity to try Sokyo at The Star casino. I'd heard good things about this place from various people and with the head chef advertised as having 'head up kitchens all over the world for Nobu' I had high expectations. Sokyo is located inside the (relatively) new The Darling hotel and I suppose the first indication of how the night was going to unfold was the stupidly loud work function/dinner that was being held in the hotel's lobby. Like WTF, who holds a sit-down dinner in a hotel lobby?? (The Darling, it seems..)
Anyways, back to Sokyo. We decided on the degustation but as the meal progressed, it became apparent that this is not your typical degustation but more a whole bunch of small side dishes to be shared amongst the table. Why they call it a 'degustation' then is kind of beyond me.
The food started off nice enough..

But then took a dive down..

unbearably salty tinned corn

this was just plain weird
Mr H informed us that sushi should be served at room temperature, this was more like fridge temperature

It was around this time that we decided it was time to get the bill. Kudos to our waiter though who tried his best to explain why we were only receiving portions for 2 when there were 3 of us and who did not include a number of dishes we complained about on the final bill. Still, I highly doubt we will ever go back for a repeat experience.

Sokyo in one word? Disappointing!

Truly sorry what happened at sokyo.
I must say please come back and ask for chase or brian and we will look after you.
What u had was not a degustation, but if one of our server designed a menu from the alacarte, again truly sorry that u guys left unhappy and i will like to make up for this.
